Reviews of the 2nd edition
The editor of this book has assembled a strong field of contributors who are recognisably experts on the areas they have been asked to review. The selection of topics is comprehensive and covers everything from molecular biology and immunology to natural history and treatment. ..
... concise and comprehensive. This combination usually implies that it would also be unreadable but this is not the case. ...
I have my own ideas about who would benefit from having a copy on their bookshelf. I recommend this book to the specialists registrars who are starting in the viral hepatitis clinic and to PhD students who are beginning their hepatitis C research in the laboratory. For the general gastroenterologist it would certainly provide a more accessible source of information that other textbooks I have read.

This second edition updates an earlier version published in 1994 and clearly fulfills its function as a detailed reference source on the hepatitis C virus. ... For example, the first chapter ... by K.E. Reed and C.M. Rice represents a definive description of our current knowledge of the virus in 25 pages of text with 235 references. similarly, the chapter ... by P. Simmonds is outstanding. One can clearly envision those doing research in HCV coming back to those chapters again and again for reference. ...
This book represents a valuable resource for those doing research in hepatitis C, whether basic, applied, or clinical.

Reviews of the 1st edition
... this is an excellent overview of the current and developing state of knowledge in the topic.
British Medical Journal
It has been said that nice things come in small packages, and this little book is no exception. ...
As one of the oldest veterans of the battle to characterise and clone hepatitis C virus (HCV), I am pleased to see that someone has mustered the courage to take on the daunting task, as an editor, to bring together a panel of internationally recognised experts to review and summarise the rapidly evolving field of HCV research and clinical practice. ...
This book is a handy source of references for the uninitiated ...
The Lancet
This is a comprehensive, well-structured book with little redundancy in the chapters, each of which is written by acknowledged authorities in their subjects. ... an excellent source of literature references for most aspects of hepatitis C virus.
Transfusion Medicine
This slender volume lives up to the reputation of the series Current Studies in Hematology and Blood Transfusion. Ironically, the strengths come from taking hepatitis C virus (HCV) beyond blood transfusion. ... Readers outside the field of HCV and molecular virology will probably find pearls of wisdom in the practical sections on screening tests for antibodies and polymerase chain reaction technology. ... The book provides an almost up to date view of HCV seen through the eyes of the scientists. Those outside the field could benefit, if only to admire how the molecular virologists have applied their skills to uncover one of the more mysterious agents of our times.

... highly recommended to epidemiologists, virologists, pathologists, specialists in Transfusion Medicine and hepatologists for at least a one-time reading.
Annals of Saudi Medicine
'Since the first edition of ‘Hepatitis C Virus’ appeared in 1994, a substantial amount of new research data has been published. This second edition covers almost all aspects of current HCV research, reflecting the wide range of knowledge gathered since the genome of HCV was identified in 1989. For the new edition all the chapters have been carefully updated and some have been completely rewritten. New chapters focussing on the molecular characterization of HCV, the immunopathogenesis of HCV infection and the liver histology of hepatitis C have been added. Clinicians including hepatologists, gastroenterologists, internists and pediatricians, but also pathologists, virologists, specialists in transfusion medicine and epidemiologists will appreciate this well-edited book.
