‘There is no doubt that the editors (Bolliger and Mathur) of Interventional Bronchoscopy did a wonderful job with this new addition to the Progress in Respiratory Research series published by Karger.

... In a field as restricted as that of Interventional Bronchoscopy, the writers should also be commended for having brought to light many previously underemphasized components of their specialty.

... a very helpful addition to any bronchologist's textbook library.’

Journal of Bronchology

‘Among the many areas in pulmonary medicine which have been revolutionised by technological advances, bronchoscopy is one of the most striking examples.

This splendid state-of-the-art book covers all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, ...

Written by the world's leading authorities of both sides of the Atlantic, and beautifully illlustrated, with elegant hard cover look, wide subject index and updated references at the end of each chapter, the book is a must for pneumologists, thoracic or ENT surgeons, oncologists and physicians who have an interest in bronchoscopy. ’

Gianfranco Rizzato (Milan), Sarcoidosis
(and, in Italian, in Giornale Italiano delle Malattie del Torace)

‘This is a comprehensive, well-illustrated volume, dealing with the historical features through the latest emerging facets of intraluminal bronchoscopy.

The volume is aimed at the regular bronchoscopist, in respiratory medicine, but also encompasses issues normally of interest to both the ENT and cardiothoracic surgeon..

Each subsection is introduced by a summary, which gives one an instant picture of what the subssection encompasses. The text is well set out and makes for easy reading despite being extensively referenced. The illustrations are truly excellent and the volume is filled with abundant high quality photographs and diagrams, many of which are in colour. The volume is bound in an attractive, durable hard cover, which makes for a recommendable high quality book.’

E.W. Russi (Zürich), Schweizerische Ärztezeitung

From Killian to Gene Therapy
This book covers all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, which go beyond the techniques of inspection, simple lavage and biopsies of the tracheobronchial tree. In a first section, historical aspects as well as the modern use of both rigid and flexible instruments, the set-up of a bronchoscopy unit, anaesthetic techniques, and functional evaluation for patients undergoing interventional bronchoscopy are discussed. A diagnostic section on transbronchial needle aspiration and bronchoscopic ultrasound is followed by extensive coverage of all existing therapeutic techniques: foreign body removal, laser resection, electrocautery, argon plasma coagulation, cryotherapy, brachytherapy, photodynamic therapy, stenting, and a chapter on multi-modality treatment of advanced pulmonary malignancies. A fourth section deals with percutaneous image-guided procedures, percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy, and transtracheal oxygen therapy. The last section provides an in-depth look at emerging bronchoscopic technology, such as autofluorescence, virtual bronchoscopy, and gene therapy.
Written by the world’s leading authorities in the field and beautifully illustrated, this book presents the state of the art of interventional bronchoscopy. It is recommended reading for pulmonologists, thoracic or ENT surgeons, oncologists and physicians who take an interest in bronchoscopy.
